Holton marshal graduates sixth from academy

Holton Town Marshal Bob Curl has spent the past 15 weeks learning more about law enforcement. Curl graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield on May 2, after completing 15 weeks of training.

Curl had been in law enforcement just 11 months before going to the academy. He noted that the training provided many scenarios an officer might face with discipline being at the top of the list. “It taught me so much about safety issues, how to keep myself safe and others,” he told The Versailles Republican.

Now trained in drug interdiction, emergency vehicle operations, firearms, criminal and traffic law, EMS awareness, physical tactics and more, Curl says he is more qualified to serve the public. Being certified in the use of pepper spray was an experience, according to Curl. He said the officers all get sprayed, feeling the full impact. “It hurts,” was his honest answer.

He is also certified in field sobriety testing, report writing, among many other certifications to his credit after graduating sixth in his class.

Curl says he is thankful for the opportunity afforded him through the town of Holton and looks forward to serving the small community where he and his wife, Rachael and daughter make their home.
