According to Batesville Police Chief Stan Holt, a three week investigation resulted in the arrest of Rosa V. Arthur, 30, of Batesville, for felony crimes of forgery, fraud and identity deception.
Batesville’s detective Mike Benjamin began the investigation May 16, when the victim reported that several thousand dollars worth of unauthorized transactions had been made on his debit and credit cards. The transactions had been made at local businesses as well as businesses in Ohio and Kentucky.

A search warrant was executed on June 6 on Arthur’s residence and vehicle on South Street in Batesville. As a result of that search, Arthur was arrested and taken into custody without incident. She was incarcerated at the Ripley County Jail.

Businesses that accept credit or debit cards are encouraged to check photo ID’s anytime a card is presented to them for payment. Chief Holt noted that identity theft continues to be a fast growing problem and says when businesses ask for photo ID it helps to deter criminals.
