ORVC Spring Sports Awards Banquet held at 'The Pines'
Gary
Franklin, Sports Writer
As has become tradition, '08 honored ORVC spring sports athletes
and coaches were gathered for the annual awards banquet, at
the Pines Restaurant in Madison, on Wednesday, June 4.
The seven school conference includes the local teams of the
Jac-Cen-Del Eagles, the Madison Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers,
the Milan Indians, the Switzerland County Pacers, the Rising
Sun Shiners, the Southwestern Hanover Rebels and this year's
host, the South Ripley Raiders.
Regional baseball continuation negated the opportunity for the
JCD and SR baseball team All-Conference players and Raider Coach
Rodney Hite, "ORVC Baseball Coach of the Year", from
attending.
Their task at hand instead was to further their seasons. The
JCD Eagles in Class 1A defeated the Henryville Hornets at Henryville
High School and the Class 2A South Ripley Raiders put the finishing
mark on the Heritage Christian team at HC High School, extending
their season to semi-state action.
With South Ripley in battle at Heritage Christian, Principal
Bob Meyer elected to follow the team which placed Assistant
Principal Bev Ester to act as host for the awards banquet. She
and Athletic Director Debbie Jett proudly represented their
school with commentary and the delivery of awards presented.
Ester welcomed athletes, coaches, school staff from the various
schools and guests before leading in a prayer for the meal and
meeting. Following the buffet style meal, awards were presented
