Ronald Raymond Ledger, Sr.
Ronald Raymond, Ledger, Sr., 49, of Milan, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Villa Hills, Kentucky. He was born on February 27, 1959 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of James V. Ledger and Mary Katherine Williams Ledger.
Survivors include his mother of Milan; sons, Ronald Raymond Ledger, Jr., of Milan and Justin M. Ledger of Ludlow, Ky.; granddaughter, Shila Ledger of Madison; sisters Thelma Conley of Maysville, Ky., Kathy Bowling of Milan and Judy Sturm of Ross, Ohio; and brother James Ledger, Jr. of Milan.
Mr. Ledger served in the US Air Force from 1977 to 1981. He was a computer technician for the EPA in Cincinnati, Ohio and a member of the Sons of American Legion Squad #0235 of Milan.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 12 noon at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Sunman. Vistitation will be held before services at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Pastor Duane A. Loos will be officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery in Sunman with military honors conducted. Memorials may be given to Gideons International or to the American Heart Association. Cook Funeral Home in Sunman is in charge of arrangements.

Alice Elizabeth Matz Crum

On Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the age of 91 Alice Elizabeth Matz Crum died in East Lansing, Michigan. She was born in New Marion, Indiana to the parents of Louis and Bernice Wilson Matz. She graduated Napoleon High School in 1933.
She married John Steven Crum on December 28, 1940. He preceded her in death November 1997. She was also preceded in death by her brothers William and Wilford Matz and sister Mary Matz Miller. She is survived by daughter Deborah Ann Crum Starnes, who resides in Okemos, Michigan, and two grandsons, Steven Andrew Starnes of Arlington, Virginia and James Christopher Starnes, of Okemos, Michigan.
After John was discharged from the Army the couple settled in Osgood, Indiana and John operated the Osgood Grain Company. She was a homemaker, community volunteer, and office assistant at the mill during busy harvest seasons. Alice enjoyed gardening and travel. She and John spent many retirement winters in Kissimmee, Florida where they enjoyed Disney World with family and friends.
In 1998 she moved into Buckeye Village and in 2005 she moved to Michigan to be near her daughter. Alice was an active member of the Osgood United Methodist Church, Tri Kappa, and Eastern Star.
Visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 29, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. with internment to follow at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Napoleon, Indiana.
Memorials may be made to the Osgood United Methodist Church or the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Sherrill Cheda (Schneider)
Suddenly on June 7, 2008, Sherrill died at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto Ont. Canada.
Beloved wife of Karl Jaffary, loving mother of Marc Perry (Diane), Andrew Perry (Cara). Mourned as well by Karl’s children, Eric Jaffary (Aeylya) and Nora Jaffary (Edward). Grandmother to Kate, Isabella, Desiree and Michael Perry as well as Luc Jaffary Osowski, and Adam Stewart Jaffary. Dear daughter of Abe Schneider and later Myrtle Schneider. She is also survived by sisters Marcia Whisman and Kathie Johnson and her brother Ralph Schneider. She will also be remembered by her very dedicated friend for many years, Phyllis Yaffe. Services were held June 11 at AW Miles Chapel in Canada.

William Joseph "Billy Joe" Moore, 50 of Madison, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2008. Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Theodore (Ted) Murray, 63, of Holton, formerly of Rising Sun, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 25 at 11 a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery near Rushville. Barbara Bishop, 74, of Moores Hill, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2008. Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, June 24 at 11 a.m. at the Moores Hill Church of Christ. Tom Dall
Tom Dall, 49, of Versailles, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. He was born on April 3, 1959 in Batesville, the son of Joseph and Bess (Grubbs) Dall. He married Mary (Dennis) Dall on May 26, 2001 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons: T.J. Dall of Sunman and Ryan Dennis of Versailles; four daughters: Christina Dall of Sunman, Michelle Bevis of Osgood, Amber Henson of Holton, Tiffany Dennis of Versailles; sister Debbie Peters of New Alsace and six grandchildren.
Mr. Dall was a die maker for A&M Tool Co. in Oldenburg. He was a member of the Catholic faith.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 18 at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Milan with Father Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial will be in the Little Memory Cemetery near Sunman. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Memorials may be given to the family. Kathryn M. Curran
Kathryn M. Curran, 82, of Olean, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville. She was born in Olean on April 2, 1926, the daughter of Alfred and Hilda Smith Miller. She married Freeman Curran on October 2, 1943, and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Pat (John) Halford of Olean; two sons, Randy (Susan) Curran of Kentucky and Michael (Tanya) Curran of North Carolina; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Curran was a homemaker and a member of the Greendale Church of the Living God.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 16 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Edward Smith officiating. Burial was in the St. Paul’s Cemetery in Olean. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Alma Marie Beckman

Alma Marie Beckman, 101, formerly of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2008 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born on May 19, 1907 in Ohio County, the daughter of Gilbert and Mary Brandt Walston. She married Theodore Beckman and he preceded her in death in 1995.
Survivors include one son, David (Camille) Beckman, of Lawrenceburg, and her daughter Marjorie (Donald) Marksberry, of Maryland; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Mrs. Beckman was a retired homemaker and was formerly a piano teacher. She was a past member of Aurora First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 16 at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro was in charge of arrangements.

Marlene Schoettelkotte
Marlene Schoettelkotte, 60, of St. Peters, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2008. Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, June 14 at St. Peters Catholic Church. Burial was in the St. Peters Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the St. Peters Building Fund or given for Masses.

Cletus Holzer
Cletus Holzer, 88, of Versailles, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2008 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. He was born on January 24, 1920 in Billings, Montana, the son of John E. and Lorean Jackson Holzer. He married Rosella Meister on May 25, 1940 and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, John (Carol) Holzer of Versailles, Cletus Jr. (Kathi) of Brion, Georgia, and Mark (Janet) Holzer of Kernersville, North Carolina; four daughters, Marie (Don) Strobel of Franklin, Joan (Leon) Sarringhaus of Hollister California, Patricia (Ray) Durlacher of Jacksonville, Florida, and Altha (Owen, Jr.) Heaton of Cross Plains; 26 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren; and one sister, Rita (Bob) Cline of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Lawrence.
Mr. Holzer was a 1938 graduate of New Marion High School. He served in the Navy during WWII and after returning from the service operated a general store with his father in New Marion and later in Versailles. He also owned and operated the Court House Inn in Versailles for several years. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood and was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus at Monsignor Brute Council 246 in Lawrenceburg. He was also a member of the Ripley County Voiture 40 & 8, a fifty-year member of the Versailles American Legion, and a former member of the Versailles Fire Department.
Mass of Christian burial is being held today, Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood with Father Rob Hankee officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles with military graveside rites conducted by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the School of Gibault or the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.


Ruby Brumm
Ruby Brumm, 97, of Milan, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. She was born on March 11, 1911 in Paris, Tennessee, the daughter of Gene and Lovie May (Bruce) Nichols. She married Percy Corbett and later to John Brumm, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Harlan (Margie) Fuller of Milan; one granddaughter, Donna (DJ) Wall of Greensburg; one step-sister, Virginia Baxter of Tennessee; two great granddaughters and five great-great granddaughters.
Mrs. Brumm was a member of the Milan First Baptist Church and was a retired employee of H.H. Meyers Packing Company.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, June 10 at 11 a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Rev. Harris Long officiating. Burial will be in the New Craven Cemetery in Milan. Vivian Lucille Hodge
Vivian Lucille Hodge, 94, of Ossian, formerly of Osgood, passed away on June 7, 2008 at the Ossian Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born February, 3, 1914 in Rexville, the daughter of George Washington and Sophia Monroe Robinson. She married Albert Oscar Hodge on November 3, 1934 and he preceded her in death on February 26, 1990.
Survivors include sons: George D. Hodge of Berrien Springs, Michigan and Gary W. Hodge of Akron; daughters: Roberta L. Blackburn of Ossian and Judith A. Richardson of Versailles; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Larry Eugene Hodge and sister Marie Ford.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, June 10 at 10 a.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Holton Cemetery. Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood is in charge of arrangements.


Steve Hoover
Steve Hoover, 42, of Versailles, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the Mercy Hospital in Harrison, Ohio. He was born in Cincinnati on November 5, 1965, the son of Harlis and Wanda Prater Hoover. He was married to Susette Sexton on April 23, 1987 and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Steve Hoover, Jr., and one daughter, Kaylynn Hoover, both of Versailles; five sisters, Kathy Fitzpatrick, Cheryl Hatter, Lyvonna Weigand, his twin sister Sherrie Hoover and Denise McMillan all of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Sharon.
Mr. Hoover was a construction worker for the Blay Real Estate Company in Cincinnati. He was a member of the Dabney Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Michael Bell of the Dabney Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Dabney Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.


John E. Hammon
John E. Hammon, 83, of Cincinnati passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Tri-County Health Care Center in Fairfield, Ohio. He was born near Versailles on May 17, 1925 the son of Elbridge and Erma Pratt Hammon. He was married to Ernestine Reuter on January 26, 1952 and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2006.
Survivors include one daughter Janie Hammon and one son Wayne Hammon both of Cincinnati; granddaughters Amanda, Rebecca, and Sarah; one sister Mrs. Dorothy Kimball of Holton; one brother Frank Hammon of Republic, Missouri. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers Norman and Rufus Hammon, and his sisters Lucille Schlotman, June Hansen, Maebeth DeBurger, Blanche Ross, Dolores Hammon, and Edith Hammon.
Mr. Hammon was a1943 graduate of Holton High School. He served with the Merchant Marines and was an Army veteran of WWII where he served with the 185th Engineers Battalion, specializing in news photography. He worked as a conductor on the B & O and CSX Railroad for 30 years retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge at Miamitown, Ohio and also a member of the Versailles American Legion.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 21st at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. David Shivers of the Hopewell Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Tanglewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30am until time of services at the funeral home.

Stephen Murray
Stephen Murray, 65, of Dillsboro, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born on July 4, 1942 in Manchester, Kentucky, the son of Leonard Arthur and Jesslyn (Ball) Murray. He married Isabel Alice (Liz) Murray on January 21, 1967 and she survives.
Other survivors include his mother, Jesslyn of Andersonville; five daughters, Tina (Dave) Tittle of North Bend, Stephanie (Rob) Smith of Michigan, Jessica (Mike) Iles of Kentucky, Cathleen Murray of Greensburg and Elizabeth (Rick) Norfleet of Bright; four brothers, Richard Murray of Dillsboro, Theodore Murray of East Enterprise, Leonard Arthur Murray, Jr., of Nashville, and Adam Murray of Missouri; two sisters, Patricia Gratias of California and Verna Lee Murray of Montana; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Lee and one granddaughter, Cami Smith.
Mr. Murray was a maintenance man for National Distillers and an iron worker, and was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church at Milan, the Dillsboro Legion; the Disabled American Veterans, and the NRA.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 2 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Revs. Robert Smith Sr., Robert Smith, Jr., and Charles Miller officiated. Burial was in the Hopewell Cemetery near Rushville. Memorials may be given to the Grace Baptist Church.
