Mini-4-H'ers enjoy day at fairground

Junior leaders demonstrated how to plant a flower garden to future 4-H members at the Mini 4-H Day held Saturday, June 21 at the Ripley County Fairgrounds Park. A total of 62 children participated in a variety of programs such as crafts, games and of course, snack time. The children were given a tour of the fairgrounds and learned about showing animals for the fair.

Pictured above runners in the 14th Annual Ripley County Chamber Walk/Run, began the 5K run when the signal was given. In the background you can see smoke coming from the chickens being barbecued by members of the Versailles Lions Club. Pictured below, members of the lions club were putting the chicken on the grill earlier in the morning, getting ready for the big day. Despite the threat of inclement weather, the local turn out was good. The storm predictions did keep quite a few car show enthusiasts away, bringing the crowd lower than in years past. The dedication of the Versailles American Legion, sponsors of the car show, shown through as they gave out a number of prizes and trophies.
