Milan graduate hired as first female police officer at B'ville

Batesville Police Chief Stan Holt has announced that Jamie Straber has been selected to join the police force.

Straber was one of 25 applicants competing in the 12-week hiring process. During the process, applicants were subjected to various forms of background checks, physical fitness testing, written aptitude testing and interviews.

The first female officer in the history of the Batesville Police Department, Straber is a 2003 graduate of Milan High School and a 2008 graduate of Ivy Tech College, where she earned an Associates Degree in Human Services.

Straber will now go through an intense 14-week field training program with the department and will attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy for 16 weeks starting in January.

Chief Holt noted, “Straber competed extremely well in the hiring process and will be an excellent officer for the department.”

Straber replaces Corporal Steve Yorn who left the agency in February.
