5K SIRC-IT series is laid to rest for '08 season

Gary Franklin, Sports Writer

The 8th Annual Bulldog Chase 5K Run/Walk race held in Batesville on Saturday, August 9, was again the vehicle used to put the SIRC-IT series to rest in '08.
A large turnout on a beautiful morning for running, walking or merely observing, made the pace strong and enthusiasm high among participants and attenders.
The running pace for the event was established by Jeremiah Vaughan with a final run in 15:25.71. Kayce Doogs set the pace for the girls at 19:45.34. The quickest walk pace was established by lady walker Lindsey Bauman in a time of 36:39.32. She was closely followed by the men's first walk pace finisher Greg Stuart, whose closing time was 36:40.75.
Gerald Laswell was the overall Bulldog Chase third fastest walk pace setter with a time of 41:50.66. However, Laswell won the most SIRC-IT series men's 5K walk races to claim the Champion plaque during the awards presentation. He stated, "This is my favorite place to race of all the events I have been at. I get a kick out of the tune they play, "Who Let The Dogs Out," he added.

"How close is 1.43 seconds in fast pacers steps?" The picture tells the tale, as that was the difference in time in the 2008 Bulldog Chase 5K walk between the first and second place finish. Kayce Doogs won with a time of 36:39.32 over her nearest rival Greg Stuart with his time of 36:40.75.

Vaughan won all five SIRC-IT series races in '08 after claiming wins in only two of the five in 2007. Vaughan's finishing time for the 5K Bulldog Chase run was 15:25.71, which put him across the finish line a solid 1:24.40 ahead of his nearest competitor. At the age of 17, Kayce Doogs was the first lady runner to cross the Bulldog Chase finish line. Her time was 19:45.34.
