Sandra Kay Risk (Sandy) Carlow
Mrs. Sandra Kay Risk Carlow, age 65, of Madison, passed away
on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at her home. She was born on October
29, 1942, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Russell and
Ellen Rose Duncan Risk. She was united in marriage on June
3, 1960, at the Jefferson Presbyterian Church near Canaan,
to Charles David Carlow and he survives.
Other survivors include: daughters: Deb (John) Pietrykowski
and Diane (Kevin) Lock, all of Madison; sister: Patty (Bob)
Cooper of Madison; brother: Ronnie (Helen) Risk of Madison;
grandchildren: Tyler, Kelsey, Benjamin, Lindsay and Trenton;
great grandchildren: Ayden and Payton; aunt: Mary Risk and
several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson: Dominic
Lock, her nephews: Trey Cooper and J.R. Risk, her father-in-law
and mother-in-law: Ralph and Ethel Mann Carlow and her sister-in-law:
Betty Ann Buchanan.
Mrs. Carlow was raised in Jefferson County. During her lifetime
she has been a member of the Jefferson Presbyterian Church
near Canaan; the Caledonia Presbyterian Church near Moorefield;
and the Brooksburg United Methodist Church in Brooksburg.
She was a 1960, graduate of Central High School.
She was employed with the Switzerland County School Corporation
for 10 years, working as the assistant librarian and office
secretary. She had resided back in the Madison community the
past 21 years. She worked for The Waters of Clifty Falls as
an activity assistant for five years and for the Madison Clinic
as an insurance clerk for seven years. For the past two years
she worked with her daughter at the Memory Mine in Madison
in sales, stock and decorating. Funeral services will be conducted
Thursday, August 28, at 11:00 a.m., by Bro. Bob Hicks at the
Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will
follow in the Canaan Cemetery in Canaan. Visitation will be
Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until time
of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Memorial
contributions may be made to Hospice of King's Daughters'
Hospital or MJHS Peer Counselor Endowment. Cards are available
at the funeral home.
Ida Mae Hensley
Ida Mae Hensley, 72, of Negengard Corner, passed away on Friday,
August 22, 2008. Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday,
at 11 a.m. at the New Life Southern Baptist Church, SR 48,
in Manchester, with Pastor Melvin Barrows officiating. Burial
will be in the St. Paul Cemetery in Sunman. Memorials may
be given to Hospice of MMCH-Batesville or to the American
Cancer Society. Cook Funeral Home in Sunman is in charge of

Mike
Sizemore
Mike Sizemore, 28 of Greensburg, passed away Friday, August
15, 2008 at the Hospice Inpatient Care Facility in Columbus.
He was born March 26, 1980 in Madison, the son of Marvin &
Linda (Hartwell) Sizemore. He married Sherry (Rigby) Sizemore
on June 8, 2006 in Greensburg and she survives.
Other survivors include his parents; two daughters: Shaylee
& Aliyah Sizemore, both of Greensburg; three sisters:
Becky Laine of Columbus, Debbie Dean of Greensburg, and Tammy
Flint of Osgood; one brother: Ron Sizemore of Batesville;
and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one
daughter: Kierra Sizemore.
Mr. Sizemore was a carpenter, a member of the Sinister Intentions
Car Club, and bowled on a league at Parkside Lanes in Greensburg.
Visitation will be at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, today,
Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday
August 20 at 10 a.m., at the Greensburg Wesleyan Church with
Pastor Doug Preston officiating. Burial will follow in the
South Park Cemetery, Greensburg. In lieu of flowers the family
would like memorial contributions made to Decatur County Hospice
or to the church. Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg
is in charge of arrangements.
Valeska M. Val) Hough
Valeska M. (Val) Hough, 80, of Moores Hill, passed away on
Saturday, August 16, 2008 at her home. She was born on March
13, 1928 in Paducah, Kentucky, the daughter of George F. Jr.
and Nina M. (Rudolph) Runge. She married James E. Hough on
August 11, 1956 and he survives.
Other survivors include sons, Jerome Kevin (Savong) Hough
and Christopher Kendall Hough both of Moores Hill; one granddaughter;
two nephews and five nieces.
Mrs. Hough received her associate in music degree in 1948
from Christian College in Missouri and bachelor of music in
Applied Piano in 1950 from Northwestern University in Illinois.
She was a nationally certified teacher of music and taught
private music from 1950-2008. She was a past president of
the Northern Hills Piano Teachers Forum, past treasurer of
Ohio Music Teachers Association; past member of Indiana Music
Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association;
was accompanist and director of Northwest Mother Singers;
the Sigma Alpha Tota Music Fraternity; and Beta Sigma Phi
Business and Professional Womens Sorority. She was a past
president of Northern Hills Music and Literary Club and Milan
New Harmony Club. She was director of music, pianist and organist
at Milan United Methodist Church from 1995 to present.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 20 at 10
a.m. at Milan United Methodist Church. Visitation will be
from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home
in Milan. Memorials may be given to Hough Legacy Endowment
for Music. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan is in charge
of arrangements.
Dallas C. Gibbs
Dallas C. Gibbs, age 74, of Aurora, died Sunday, August 17,
2008 at Mercy General Hospice in Western Hills, OH. He was
born in Aurora, on Oct 2, 1933 to Ewing Gibbs and Nannie Baxter
Gibbs. On March 29, 1963 he was married to Lorena L. Morehead,
who survives.
Other survivors include four children; Darryl Gibbs, of Lawrenceburg,
Bryon (Tracy) Gibbs, of Aurora, Cheryl Gibbs, of Aurora, and
Tricia (Osborne) Gibson, of Rising Sun; 15 grandchildren,
and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
parents, one brother, Chalmer Gibbs, and one sister, Mildred
Kerney.
Mr. Gibbs attended school in Aurora. In 1953 he joined the
US Air Force, and served his country until 1956. He was employed
at Aurora Casket Co. for 35 years, working in shipping and
receiving.
Mr. Gibbs was musically inclined, he played with a group while
stationed in the Air Force, and when he returned from service,
he could play several instruments.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 21, at 12 noon at
the Aurora Fire & Rescue building, 5950 Dutch Hollow Road
in Aurora. Visitation will also be Thursday, from 10:00 a.m.
until service time at the Fire & Rescue Building. Arrangements
are being handled by Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro.
Tien Chu Hopkins
Tien Chu Hopkins, 40, of Greensburg, passed away on Thursday,
August 14, 2008 at her residence. She was born on July 10,
1968 at Tainan, Taiwan, the daughter of James William and
Haiang Chu Yen Combs.
Survivors include fiancé Bob Post of Greensburg; parents
Bill and Tina Combs of Milan; sister Susan Charles of Milan;
and paternal grandmother Gladys Combs of Milan. She was preceded
in death by daughter, Taylor Combs and grandfather, Euford
Combs.
Ms. Hopkins was an employee of GECOM in Greensburg. She was
a US Air Force Veteran having served in Desert Storm and was
commander of the Greensburg American Legion Post 129. She
was also a member of the 40 & 8.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m.
at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Rev. George
Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery
in Moores Hill. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., Tuesday,
at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Greensburg
American Legion Post 129. Military rites will be conducted
at graveside by the American Legion.
Ethel Esther Thielbar
Ethel Esther Thielbar, 81, of Georgia, formerly of Greensburg,
passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2008. Funeral services
will be held on Wednesday, at 10 a.m. at St. John United Church
of Christ in Batesville with visitation today, Tuesday, from
5-8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Memorials may
be given to St. John Church or American Diabetes Association.

Edith M. Bree
Edith M. Bree, 90, of North Vernon, formerly of Versailles,
passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at St. Vincents
Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born near Napoleon on December
4, 1917 the daughter of Charles and Carrie Wagner Spreckelson.
She was married to James J. Bree in 1935 and he preceded her
in death in 1965.
Survivors include two sons, James E. Bree of North Vernon
and John (Diane) Bree of Lawrenceburg; four daughters, Janice
Bree of Milan, Judy (Timothy) White of Florence, Kentucky,
Barbara (Harry) Shomaker of Rowlette, Texas, and Ellen Ledford
of Greensburg; also a granddaughter and great-grandchildren
whom she helped raise including Deanna Haley of North Vernon,
Chrishana Creech-Hadley, Tamra Roe, and Erica Kieffer. She
was preceded in death by her parents, her sons Kenneth, Frederick,
and Robert, and her daughter Carol.
Mrs. Bree was the oldest living member of the Versailles Church
of Christ where she participated in the Helping Hands womens
group. She enjoyed embroidering, quilting, and gardening.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 16 at the Versailles
Church of Christ with Dale Day officiating. Burial was in
the Forest Hill Cemetery in Moores Hill. Memorials may be
given to the donors choice in care of the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles.

Vicki
Chandler
Vicki Chandler, 49, of Cross Plains, passed away on Saturday,
August 9, 2008 at the Kings Daughters Hospital
in Madison. She was born at Louisville on June 11, 1959, the
daughter of Thomas and Anna Hazelwood Reed. She married Jeff
Chandler on May 17, 1985, and he survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Tim (Erin) Chandler of
Campbellsburg, Charlie (Chasity) Chandler of Hanover, and
Dylan Chandler of Cross Plains; grandchildren Jasmine, Austin,
and Cooper; her step-mother Linda Reed of Lietchfield, Kentucky;
brothers, Dale Reed, Tommy (Lisa) Reed, and Jason (Marci)
Reed all of Lietchfield; sisters, Dee Dee Smith of Missouri
and Stephanie (Roy) Hack of Lietchfield. She was preceded
in death by her parents, her son Michael Wayne Hockenberry,
her granddaughter Emma, and her brother Wally Reed.
Mrs. Chandler was a member of the Cross Plains Church of Christ
and was a former employee of Mike and Teds Video in
Versailles. She loved to read, raise flowers, and enjoyed
her family vacations to the Atlantic Ocean in Myrtle Beach
and Florida. She also enjoyed raising sheep on the farm she
loved with her husband.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 13 at 11 a.m.
at the Cross Plains Church of Christ with Bro. Logan Fugate
and Evangelist Barry Kermeen officiating. Burial will be in
the Salem Cemetery at Cross Plains. Visitation is today, Tuesday,
from 5-9 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles
and from 10 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Salem Cemetery in care of the

Christine Lauren Laloge
Christine Lauren Laloge, 10, of Batesville, passed away on
Friday, August 8, 2008. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday,
from 4-8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral
services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, at the St. Louis
Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family
requests memorials to the St. Louis School Art Supply Fund.

Paul L. Althoff
Paul L. Althoff, 78, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2008
at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a resident of
Greenwood. He was born October 28, 1929, to Linda (Werner)
and Leonard Althoff. Paul graduated from Cross Plains High
School in 1948.
He was married September 12, 1953, to Ruth (Hurelbrink) Althoff,
with whom he enjoyed a long, loving relationship for more
than 54 years. She survives.
Paul served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953 in the Ski
Patrol in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was employed by Aircom Metal
Products as a plastics production engineer. He retired in
1995.
Paul served the Lord as a member of Resurrection Lutheran
Church of Indianapolis, where he and Ruth joyfully belonged
to the SAM's Club. In earlier years, he was actively involved
for over 40 years at Concordia Lutheran Church. For many years
he was the church's financial secretary and member of the
church properties committee.
Paul was also a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers
and the Greenwood American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Hurelbrink) Althoff; son
and daughter-in-law, Steve and Cheryl Althoff from Cross Plains;
daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dave Campbell from Greenwood;
brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Joyce Althoff of San
Jose, California; six grandchildren; a step-granddaughter;
two step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Leonard; mother
and stepfather, Linda and Herbert Aufderheide; and sisters,
Marie Konkle and Ruth Ashbaugh.
Services are being held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, August
12, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 445 E. Stop 11 Rd., Indianapolis,
with calling there from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran
Cemetery, Olean.

Church or St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Olean, 5869 S. State

Benjamin Arthur Davidson
Benjamin Arthur Davidson, 82, of Aurora, died Wednesday, August
6, 2008 at his residence. He was born December 24, 1925 in
Wewoka, Oklahoma, the son of George William Davidson and Jenny
Elizabeth Keefer Davidson.
He graduated from high school in Oklahoma and in his early
years he worked with horses, breaking them so people could
ride them and be used for other purposes. He also worked in
the California shipyards as a welder. He worked on racecars
and was an avid collector of many items.
He served his country in the US Navy for two years and served
in the South Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Aurora
VFW, American Legion and the Aurora Moose Lodge.
In November 1952 he married Jean Reed and she preceded him
in death in April 1970. On January 5, 1973 he married Mary
Carole Ross and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Benjamin (Collisha) Davidson
of Aurora; three daughters, Darlene (Orvell) Johnston of Bright,
Sheri (Jim) Edwards of W. Milton, Ohio and Gena (Tony) Winn
of Picaylne, Mississippi; two brothers, James Davidson and
Raymond Leroy Davidson; three sisters, Naomi Jeske, Betty
Jeanne Paschall and Shirley Ann Riggs; 21 grandchildren; 31
great grandchildren; four stepchildren, Vicki (Mike) Fraley,
Allen Arnett, Sherry Rosner and Geoff Washnock.
Three brothers, one sister and one daughter preceded him in
death.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. at
the Holmes Hill Church of Christ in Aurora. Internment was
in the Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro.
Memorials may be made to the Holmes Hill Church of Christ
or to the Oakdale Cemetery.

Carlos L. Hardy
Carlos L. Hardy, 63, of Seymour, formerly of Holton passed
away Sunday, August 10, 2008 at the Dubois County Memorial
Hospital in Jasper. He was born in Cincinnati on April 12,
1945 the son of George and Florence Pflum Hardy.
Survivors include one daughter Carla Beverly of Holton; grandchildren
Alax and Megan Furnish; brothers George Hardy, Jr. of Kentucky
and Gary Hardy of Versailles; sisters Carol Stinson of North
Vernon, Marlene Holloway of Ludlow, Kentucky, and Mary Lou
Embry of Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents,
his sister Helen Hartbarger, and his brother Stewart "Pete"
Hardy.
Mr. Hardy was a former employee of the Jefferson Proving Ground
and was currently employed with Crane Army Ammunition Activity
at Crane, Indiana. Mr. Hardy was an Army veteran of the Vietnam
War.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 14 at 11 a.m.
at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial
will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles with military
graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation
will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to
the Versailles American Legion in care of the funeral home.
Clarabel F. Suttman
Clarabel F. Suttman, 84, of Oldenburg, passed away on Friday,
August 8, 2008. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. today,
Tuesday, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. Burial will be
in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the

Josephine C. Wissel, 97, of Batesville, passed away on Friday,
August 8, 2008. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday, from
10-11:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church in Batesville. Funeral services

Betty Jean Flint McClain, 64, of Madison, passed away on Thursday,
August 7, 2008. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August

James
J. Whitehead
James J. Whitehead, 71, of Versailles passed away Friday,
August 1, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born at North Vernon on August 20, 1936 the son of
George D. and Doris Taskey Whitehead. He was married to Sharon
Vinson on October 25, 1963 and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, James D. (Natalie) Whitehead
of Canton, Georgia, Gary (Amy) Whitehead of Murfreesboro,
Tennessee, and Jay (Sandy) Whitehead of Sunman; grandchildren
Jerel, Valaree, Baylee, Derek, Zakry, Jozephine, Margo, Emily,
Taylor, and Carson; two brothers, Charles Whitehead of Westport
and George Whitehead, Jr. of Clarksville. He was preceded
in death by his parents and his sister Helen Wilds.
Mr. Whitehead was a 1956 graduate of North Vernon High School
and received his CLU degree from American College in Washington
DC in 1991.
He was a 40 year member of the Tyson United Methodist Church
in Versailles where he served as a Trustee, Sunday school
teacher, and lay leader. He also attended the Sylvan-Abby
United Methodist Church in Safety Harbor, Florida. He was
a 50 year member of the Versailles Lions Club and had the
unique distinction of 50 years of perfect attendance.
He served in the Indiana National Guard, was president of
the Harbor Town Condominium Association in Clearwater, Florida,
president of the Central Indiana Investment Club, a member
of the River City Classic Car Club, and helped organize and
served as president of the NALU.
Mr. Whitehead worked as an Agency Manager for Farm Bureau
Insurance for 29 years retiring in 1995, serving at agencies
in Osgood, Madison, Brookville, Batesville, and Vevay. In
1977 he earned the Governor Agency Manager Award. His passions
included his grandchildren, fishing, golfing, traveling, his
Florida home, classic cars, and having coffee with his buddies
at the Versailles McDonalds and at the Paradise Restaurant
in Florida. Mr. Whitehead was an organ donor.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 9 at 11 a.m.
at the Tyson United Methodist Church in Versailles with Rev.
Jim Byerly officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m.
to 8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles
and from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Tyson United Methodist Church
Endowment Fund for Scholarships in care of the funeral home.

Millie F. Ziegler
Millie F. Ziegler, 83 of Batesville, passed away Tuesday,
July 29, 2008. Funeral services were held Saturday, August
2, at St. Anthonys Church with burial in the church
cemetery. Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville, was in charge of
the arrangements.
Anna Mae Waldo
Anna Mae Waldo, 91, of Versailles passed away Thursday, July
31, 2008 at her home. She was born at Spring Lake in Kenton
County, Kentucky on March 16, 1917 the daughter of James and
Martha Huffman Culbertson. She was married to James A. Waldo
in 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1964.
Survivors include one son James (Jim) Waldo of Versailles;
one daughter Jean Thompson of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister Margaret Maxwell of
Greensburg. She was also preceded in death by her parents,
her son William Waldo, and her brothers James and Robert Culbertson.
Mrs. Waldo was a former employee of the Spencer-Tyson Pharmacy,
Hunter's Hardware in Versailles, and also Seagram's. She also
had also operated an upholstery shop in her home. She had
enjoyed quilting and through the years had made many cheerleading
and majorette outfits for local children as well as prom dresses.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 4 at 11 a.m. at
the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Randy
Thieman of the Shelby Christian Church officiating. Burial
was in the Highland Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.
Memorials may be given to the Diabetes Foundation or Rescue
69 in care of the funeral home.

William Oscar Meeks
William Oscar "Bill" Meeks, 71, of Madison, died
Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held today, August 5 at 11:00 a.m.
at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison with Pastor
Mike Barnes officiating. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery
near Moorefield.

Ryan Lee Morrison, 25, of Hanover, passed away on Wednesday,
July 30, 2008. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 3,
