water rates to increase
Osgood Town Council considered a Water Purchase Resolution at the
regular meeting on Tuesday, March 16. According to town attorney
Mary Ann Gay, the resolution will increase the rate for the Holton
Rural Water Company two percent or the consumer price index.
Currently, Holton Rural Water Company is buying water at a rate
of $3.63 per 1,000 gallons. The contract presented by the town to
Holton Water will be for 20 years. If Holton chooses not to sign
the contract, then the rate will increase to $4.86 per 1,000 gallons.
According to Gay, the rate increase was necessary due to an uncertain
status on a Rural Development loan recently applied for the by the
Osgood Water Department for improvements. The motion to adopt Resolution
2010-6 was unanimously approved.
Parking for local businesses has become a problem from the stoplights
to Ripley Street, according to resident Donald Dunbar. He asked
the town if it was possible to put a time limit on parking.
Although the town cannot put any restrictions along that section
because of State Highway regulations, Gay will contact the Ripley
County Area Planning office to inquire about an ordinance regarding
off-street parking areas for apartments.
In other business:
The request to collect donations at the stoplights by the
Knights of Columbus on May 1 and May 22 was unanimously approved.
A small section of an alley recently vacated by the town
was not included in the deed, according to Andy Scholle. The town
unanimously approved to accept the petition to have it closed.
Keri Johnson introduced herself as the new president of the
Osgood Beautification Committee.
Grants received from the Reynolds Foundation will go towards
the purchase of a utility truck for the water department and tree
trimming equipment, according to council president Linda Krinop.
All board members were in attendance. The next meeting will be held
on Tuesday, April 20 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Osgood Town Hall.
