Big Oaks NWR Annual Butterfly Count
Volunteers are needed for all-day or half-day butterfly counts at Big Oaks National Wildlife Reserve. Market on the Square
Main Street Versailles will sponsor “Market on the Square” located on the Courthouse Square in Versailles Saturday morning Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. until noon. Just for fun 30 mile tractor ride
There will be a 30 mile tractor ride on Sunday, August 2. The group leaves Lutz Auction Center at 10 a.m. sharp, arriving around noon at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hubble’s Corner. Both old and modern tractors are welcome. All tractors must be equipped with a slow-moving sign and operable brakes. Tractors may be delivered to Lutz Auction Center before the ride. August 3

Community blood drive
St. Maurice Parish Center in Napoleon will host a community blood drive on Monday, Aug. 3 from 1 – 6 p.m. Schedule an appointment online at www.hoxworth.org/groups/napoleon or call Arlene at 812-852-4394. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Big Oaks to host ice cream social
Join the Big Oaks Conservation Society and Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge on Monday, Aug. 3, for an old-fashioned ice cream social. The event will take place at the historic one-room Oakdale Schoolhouse built in 1869 beginning at 5 p.m. Homemade ice cream and desserts will be served beginning at 6 p.m. There will be short walking tours and van tours of the refuge. Follow the brown directional signs to the refuge office off Highway 421. Additional signs will direct visitors to Oakdale Schoolhouse located on Paper Mill Road (Morgan Road on the refuge). Napoleon senior club meeting
The Napoleon Senior Community Club will meet at the community center on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. There will be a cookout.

August 5

Fraud prevention program for seniors
The Osgood Library will be hosting a program “Fraud Prevention for Seniors” (and those who help seniors). This program will be presented by the Indiana Securities Division of the Secretary of State on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 1:30 p.m. at Osgood Library.

August 6

Smorgasbord dinner in Napoleon
St. John’s Lutheran Church of Napoleon will have their monthly smorgasbord dinner on Thursday, Aug. 6. Serving starts at 4:30 p.m. Carry-outs are available and there is a per-person charge. Everyone is welcome.

August 8

Huge rummage and bake sale
Solid Rock Bible Fellowship Church will have a huge rummage and bake sale on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the new fellowship hall. Bag items from 1 – 2 p.m. The church is located at the corner of Harrison and Monroe streets in Napoleon. For more information call 812-852-2172.

National Family Shoot – NMLRA
The NMLRA will host a National Family Shoot at the range in Friendship on Saturday and Sunday Aug. 8 – 9. There will be competition for men, women, junior and sub-junior rifle, pistol, trap, skeet, bench, knife and hawk, and daily merchandise prizes. Everyone is welcome including families, individuals, jackets, new shooters and old hands. There is an admission charge. UMC women’s ice cream social

The Cross Plains and Benham United Methodist women are hosting the annual ice cream social on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Benham United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall located at 648 E. County Rd. 650S (corner of 650S and Benham Road). Freewill offering.

Ripley County Democrats meeting

The Ripley County Democrats will meet Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Dramann’s Camp. Turn east on Eckert Street in Osgood; watch for signs. The pitch-in dinner starts at 6 p.m. with the meeting following at 7 p.m.

Ripley Co. Historical Society Museum
The Ripley County Historical Society Museum is open until August 31 on Sunday afternoons from 2 – 4 p.m. The museum will be open on Pumpkin Show day.

Historical Society archive building
Beginning in August, the Ripley County Historical Society Archive Building located on the courthouse square will be open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 1 – 4 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and closed Wednesday. For more information call 812-689-5767.

Ripley County fall soccer sign-ups
Ripley County fall soccer sign-ups are going on now! Any child from JCD, Milan, South Ripley and home-schoolers in the county ages 4 to 13 can play. This is a non-traveling league with games to be played at Versailles Sport Complex. Parent coaches and volunteers are needed. Fibromyalgia/Lyme Disease support group

Back Door Friends of Faith distribution
A monthly non-food distribution for those in need will be held on the third Saturday at Tyson United Methodist Annex located at 107 N. Adams Street in Versailles. The distribution will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Back Door Friends of Faith serves anyone in the South Ripley and Jac-Cen-Del school districts. Please bring a picture I.D. for identification.

Ripley County Amateur Radio Club

Ripley County Food Pantry
The Ripley County Food Pantry located at the Ripley Co. Fairground, Bldg. 16C, in Osgood, will be open on the third Monday of each month from 9-12 a.m. and 5:30-7 p.m. The mobile pantry will be open on the first Friday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., also at the fairgrounds in Osgood.
