‘Jacob Scare’ haunted woods

The “Jacob Scare” haunted woods will be held Friday and Saturday nights in October from 8 – 11 p.m., weather permitting. The trail is located off SR 129 between Versailles and Cross Plains at the Vogel’s property at 3530 E. Olean Road. Follow the signs. Proceeds from the $5 admission fee go toward scholarships for students to attend the Southeastern Career Center’s fire and rescue class, which was Jacob Vogel’s passion. A program about combating substance abuse in our community is being offered in Milan. “One Community, One Night” will be held at Milan High School on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Noel Houze, school resource officer, and Chris Richey, Indiana State Police, will present “Hidden in Plain Sight.” Chris Poulos, a motivational speaker and cyclist will also be part of the program. The program is sponsored by Milan schools and the Ripley County Drug Awareness Coalition.

Schoolhouse museum open, Sept. – Oct.
Take a scenic fall drive on SR 62, 4 miles west of Dillsboro, and visit a restored one-room schoolhouse located in Farmers Retreat near St. John’s Lutheran Church. Listed on the National Register of Historical Places, the schoolhouse was built in 1888 and restored in 1950. The schoolhouse museum is open Sunday afternoons in September and October from 2 – 4 p.m. Everyone is invited and fourth grade teachers are invited to bring students for field trips.
